Something amusing happened a fortnight ago. I was reading Neil Patel’s post about 5 Ways to Build Links without Getting Penalized.
After reading the post, I went to the comments section to join in on the discussions and came across some very frank and emotional laden comments from two fellows. They expressed serious reservations about the possibility of implementing the tips Neil offers in his numerous articles and getting the desired results.
Let me quote one of them here:
“But like I said before, this is damn near impossible for many of us to do. Not because our content is crap, but because we don’t have the resources or foundation that we need for what you propose.”
Honestly, I feel the pain and share the frustration of these lads. And it got me thinking, I was in that same situation a while back as a novice starting a career in digital marketing. It all became glaring and I realized how much progress I had made in my digital marketing journey.
So where did I start from?
As a novice, I started my digital marketing career from studying most of the guides in Neil Patel’s 12 guides and two courses MBA program and gradually implemented the tips he offered and consistently consumed his insightful tips from Quicksprout and Neil Patel.
But by far, one of the coolest guides Neil offered me was the website analysing tool on Quicksprout. With guidance from Neil and Quicksprout, Nativedge sits on the number 1 spot amongst leading digital marketing agencies in Nigeria (which is where I operate).
Nativedge has the highest score for SEO and speed among the agencies.
In this post, I will be showing you the challenges that I had in my digital marketing journey and how Quicksprout helped us at Nativedge to overcome them.
Initial challenges of our overall digital marketing strategy
- We were not showing up in SERP search results for any of our relevant keywords.
- The Site speed was slow and affecting the load time.
- We had no call to action above the fold line for conversion.
In the following section below, i will be showing you how Quicksprout is helping us overcome our digital marketing challenges:
Search Engine Optimization
The most awesome thing Quicksprout did for us was to analyse our site and offer us SEO recommendations. Which eventually led to us redesigning our website. Equipped with our findings, we realised that our initial site architecture which was a one page site didn’t allow us to properly utilize heading tags and index pages.
So we redesigned our website, added a call to action above the fold line to enhance conversion, resolved length of titles, headings and Meta descriptions. Also, Quicksprout helped us identify images without alt tags and we fixed them.
The website analyser even went further to offer us tips on how to improve our website rank, ways to increase backlinks and how to qualify for long tail keywords.
Website Design Issues
Quicksprout helped us optimize our site speed by showing us CSS files, Java scripts and images that were increasing the number of request being made to load the site. Armed with the recommendations, we were able to minify the CSS and java script files and also compress images of our new website design.
It is said that knowledge is power! It truly is. Recall that one of the initial challenges we had was not showing up in search results. It was so bad that when you use the whole title of any of our blog posts as a search query, the post would still not show up in search results.
The Quicksprout recommendation was for us to use our relevant keywords in our titles, headings, Meta descriptions and in the content. So we fixed all the tags and we are now beginning to see some awesome improvements in search display.
We have received some really great results after this fix. Not only have we started to show up in search results and rank for relevant keywords, our organic traffic is too.
Venturing into a new career or start-up isn’t always easy but when you are dedicated and passionate about your venture and you have a hunger for requisite knowledge then you are on the right path. All that would be required of you to succeed are patience and the right tools to help you on your journey.
For us at Nativedge, Quicksprout and the tips from Neil Patel have empowered us with the necessary competitive edge to attain sustainable growth.
I will love to hear of tools and influencers who have helped you in your own journey in the comments box below.
